I am a yoga instructor and a professor in the Center for South Asia at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where I teach classes on subjects including Bhakti poetry, comparative religion, and Indian heroic poetry.  I received my Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University and am proficient in Sanskrit.  I teach regular, weekly  public yoga classes at several studios and community centers in the Madison area.  I also offer asana workshops inspired by mythology and teacher training modules on Sanskrit and Yoga Philosophy.

Bringing yoga to a broader community is a passion of mine.  I speak fluent Spanish, and offer asana classes in English and Spanish.

Testimonials

  1. "I feel very fortunate to have come across Chris Livanos' Vinyasa classes - they are exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. After spending years studying a rigid and formal form of yoga, Chris' light-hearted and knowledge-filled approach to teaching is a refreshing change. Chris creates a safe, welcoming and non-competitive environment in his yoga classes, offers helpful feedback and excellent demonstrations while teaching, and has an obvious commitment to his practice which comes through in his teaching. He's professional, always starting and ending on time; and in between lovely warm ups and cool downs sneaks in some awesome power poses in a subtle 'hey-why-not' kind of way. I can't say enough good things about Chris' classes (or music selection); maybe just that I always walk away from them feeling lighter and more limber." Lia Coleman, student

  4. "Chris Livanos has been teaching at my yoga studio since my primary teacher went on maternity leave. His presence here and his kind nature have won over my students completely. Chris is clear in his instruction and wise and safe in his concepts of movement. His knowledge of how breath guides the body and nervous system is extensive. While all this sounds very technical, Chris' classes are fun, integrating, and relaxing. I give him two thumbs up!" Jules Wolf Stenzel, owner of Jules Pilates Studio
